The Water Information Summit (WIS) is the flagship conference of the WaterWeb Consortium which promotes the sharing of information concerning water and the earth’s environment. Our organization seeks to create a global community, bringing together educational, governmental, nonprofit, & commercial entities interested in water research, conservation, and management; linked electronically via the Internet. WaterWeb’s goals are to advance water related issues, promote the use of quality information, and share information with water use stakeholders and decision makers. WIS annual conferences have been held in Florida, Panama, The Netherlands, Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil, El Salvador, Chile, The Dominican Republic and Burkina Faso.
The WIS-15 took place on July 2014 in the enchanting and strategic city of Foz do Iguacu, Brazil, in the tres fronteras region of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, just downstream of the Itaipu Hydroelectric Project shared on the River Parana between Brazil and Paraguay.. The meeting was hosted by the Centro Internacional de Hidroinformatica in association with USAID-Global Water for Sustainability Program at Florida International University, International Hydrological Programme of UNESCO, ITAIPU Binacional and Itaipu Technological Park Foundation, and th WaterWeb Consortium. Also hosted the Summer Course in International Erasmus Mundus - MSc in Ecohydrology, organized by the National University of La Plata (Argentina) and the Federal University of Espirito Santo (Brazil).
