Relevant Information for your trip to Brazil

Visa Visa for Brazil follows reciprocity rules for foreign national visiting Brazil: If your country requires Brazilian citizens a visa to enter your country, Brazil will require you to obtain a visa. Please check in the Brazilian Embassy of your country the requirements to enter the country. U.S. and Canadian citizens require a visitor visa to enter Brazil. The organizers can issue a letter of invitation to the WIS meeting upon request.

Currency The Brazilian Real (BRL) is the official currency in Brazil. The exchange rate as of March 2006 was BRL 2.15 = USD 1.00. Major hotels and banks exchange and take U.S. dollars and Euros, but the street commerce rarely accepts foreign currency. Anyways, Brasilia is well served by money exchange facilities. Major credit cards are widely accepted all over Brazil. Also, the ATM facilities accept credit and debit cards affiliated to major bank networks.

Vaccines It is always good to have yellow fever vaccine before coming to Brazil, particularly if you plan to go outdoors or travel within Brazil. Health authorities require taking the vaccination at least ten (10) days before travel to Brazil.

Laptops and electronic equipment Very rarely, the customs authorities in Brazil search these equipments for import into Brazil by visitors. Should that be the case, you can introduce them in a temporary basis by filling the appropriate customs forms available at the port of entrance. Weather We promise all-year-around pleasant weather in Brasilia. Temperatures in June oscillate between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. The Weather Channel website http://www.weather.com also offers daily updates on conditions in the Central Plateau of Brazil. Please write "Brasília" in the field and check next day's temperature and climate conditions.

Chapada dos Veadeiros If you plan to participate in the special trip to the Chapada, you should wear comfortable shoes, t-shirts and jeans, hat, and bathing suits. You should also bring solar protection for your skin, mosquito repellent and a medicine for mosquito bites and eventual scratches, because we will be walking on savanna environment. If you prefer, all these items can also be bought in locally Brasília.
